During assembly, inspect the following components for any foreign materials: The front face of the flywheel housing, the two sides of the flywheel housing gasket and the rear face of the cylinder block. These components must be free of the following substances: oil, fuel, water, gasket adhesive, assembly compounds, and any other foreign material.
Apply a small amount of ultra blue Loctite 587 in order to fill the space between the cylinder block, the flywheel housing, and the oil pan before installing the oil pan gasket and the oil pan. The components must be assembled within 20 minutes of applying the ultra blue Loctite587.
Use the following procedure to tighten the flywheel housing bolts:
1 8 5P-8289 Bolt 1. Tighten bolt (1) through bolt (9) in a numerical sequence as shown in Illustration 2 to 100 20 N m (74 15 lb ft).
2. Tighten bolt (10) through bolt (20) in a numerical sequence as shown in Illustration 2 to 40 10 N m (30 7 lb ft).
3. Again, tighten bolt (1) through bolt (9) in a numerical sequence as shown in Illustration 2 to 135 20 N m (100 15 lb ft).
4. Again, tighten bolt (10) through bolt (20) in a numerical sequence as shown in Illustration 2 to 55 10 N m (41 7 lb ft).
