The electric fuel transfer pump (8) pumps the fuel through the fuel filter (11). The fuel filter is equipped with a reverse flow element. After the fuel has been filtered, the fuel is pumped to the fuel injection pump (7) .Note: The electric fuel transfer pump must not be allowed to run dry for more than sixty seconds when the fuel system is being primed. The electric fuel transfer pump requires fuel for lubrication. The precision parts of the pump can be damaged without lubrication.The excess fuel flow to the fuel injection pump (7) is returned to the fuel filter base. This fuel can be supplied back to the fuel injection pump. The system will vent through the fuel return vent (10) that is built into the fuel filter base.The fuel injection pump is equipped with an electronic controller (5) in order to precisely control the injection of the fuel. The fuel injection pump (7) supplies fuel to each fuel injection nozzle through high pressure fuel lines (4). The excess fuel flow to the fuel injection nozzles flows back to the tank through the leak off pipes (1) .The fuel system must be primed when any of the following conditions occur:
The fuel filter is changed.
The fuel line is removed.
The fuel injection pump is removed.
