Remove Rocker Shaft Assemblies
START BY:a. remove valve covers 1. Remove fuel line (1) with tool (B). Put protection caps over all fuel openings.2. Separate rocker arms (4) and push rod (2) with tool (A). Put identification marks on each valve bridge as to its location. Remove valve bridges (3). 3. On earlier engines, disconnect fuel lines (5) from fuel line adapters (8). Remove adapters (8).4. Remove bolts (9) that hold the rocker shaft assembly to the cylinder head. Remove rocker shaft assembly (6).Install Rocker Shaft Assemblies
1. Put rocker shaft assembly (1) in position on the head. 2. Put 5P3931 Anti-Seize Compound on the threads of bolts (2) through (5). Tighten bolts (2) through (5) in number sequence to a torque of 270 25 N m (200 20 lb.ft.). Tighten bolts again in number sequence to a torque of 447 20 N m (330 15 lb.ft.). Tighten the bolts again in number sequence to a torque of 447 20 N m (330 15 lb.ft.).
Earlier Engines
Later Engines 3. Put clean engine oil on O-ring (9). Install fuel line adapters (7). Install locks (6).4. Connect fuel lines (8) to fuel line adapters (7). Tighten the fuel line nuts to a torque of 40 7 N m (30 5 lb.ft.) with tool (B).5. Put clean engine oil on bridge dowels (13). Install valve bridges (12) in their respective locations on the cylinder head.6. Put clean engine oil on the valve bridges. Connect rocker arms (14) and push rods (11) with tool (A).7. Adjust the valves to have a clearance of 0.38 mm (.015 in.) for intake and 0.76 mm (.030 in.) for exhaust. See Valve Clearance Setting in Testing And Adjusting.8. Install fuel lines (10). Tighten the nut on later engines that fastens adapter (7) to the valve cover base to a torque of 30 5 N m (22 4 lb.ft.).
