Information:
1. With the clutch released, measure spring length. Proper length is 3 inches (76 mm). 2. To adjust spring length, loosen locknut and turn adjusting nut. Tighten locknut when proper adjustment is obtained. 3. Push clutch lever all the way forward. Loosen locknut. 4. Turn rod until brake lining just touches the brake drum. 5. Move clutch lever to RELEASE position. Turn the rod clockwise 3 more turns. Tighten locknut.(58)Cable Drum Transmission Drive Chain
Stop engine and remove cover. Check slack in chain. Slack should be 3/4 inch (19 mm). Adjust if necessary. If no adjustment is necessary, install cover. To Adjust:
1. Loosen 3 bolts. 2. Loosen locknut. 3. To lessen slack, turn setscrew clockwise until proper slack is obtained.4. Tighten locknut.5. Tighten bolts.6. Recheck slack.7. Install cover.(59)Drum Drive Chain
Stop engine and remove guard. Check slack in chain. Slack should be 5/8 inch (15,9 mm) midway between the sprockets. Adjust if necessary. If no adjustment is necessary, install guard. To Adjust:
1. Loosen bolts. 2. Loosen locknut. 3. To lessen slack, turn the setscrew clockwise until proper slack is obtained.4. Tighten locknut.5. Tighten bolts.6. Recheck slack.7. Install guard.(60)Boom Drum Pawl
If the pawl and the transmission reverse lock do not lock in the disengaged position, adjust the pawl. To Adjust:
1. Loosen locknut. 2. Turn setscrew clockwise until lever locks in the DISENGAGE position. Tighten locknut.(61)Cables
Keep cables from becoming dry. Maintain a thin film of cable lubricant on cables. Excessive lubricant will hold abrasives which will wear both the sheaves and the cable. Always wear gloves when handling cable.(62)Prescreen
1. Check prescreen for damage and replace if necessary.2. Wash prescreen in clean solvent, as required, to remove dust and debris on screen.(63)Towing Winch
1. Check oil level with engine running at low idle. Oil must be visible in sight gauge. Add oil if necessary.
Check cable. If cable is worn or frayed install a new cable.
Installing Cable
Cable is attached to the drum on the winch with a standard cable ferrule. The ferrule, leaded or wedged to the cable, is fitted into a socket on the drum and secured with a bolt-down clamp.Ferrules are made in various diameters and lengths. When ordering cable from your local supplier, use the following guide to specify the correct ferrule.
If cable diameter is increased from the standard diameter, it should be done for extended cable life only. It is not to be used to attempt to increase winch pulling capacity.
Put the cable in a straight line behind the tractor. Remove clamp (A). Install cable end into groove (B). Install clamp (A).(64)Threading Cables
Check condition of cable. If cable has frayed or worn spots, install a new cable.
Always wear gloves when handling cable.
Unroll the cable from the spool, never lift it off in loops.Weld cable ends to prevent fraying. When using U-bolt clamps, always install so that the U-bolt part is around the loose end of the cable and the clamp part is against the load carrying cable, space the clamps evenly apart and torque nuts to 130 lb. ft. (177 N m).Boom Line
