Introduction
The problem that is identified below does not have a known permanent solution. Until a permanent solution is known, use the solution that is identified below.Problem
Coolant may leak from the head to block joint.Solution
Do not operate or work on this product unless you have read and understood the instruction and warnings in the relevant Operation and Maintenance Manuals and relevant service literature. Failure to follow the instructions or heed the warnings could result in injury or death. Proper care is your responsibility.
An 8C-3680 Coolant Conditioner (Additive) can be added to ELC coolant to stop coolant leaks from the liner sleeve interface. When added to ELC coolant, the coolant conditioner will react to form a silicate precipitate. This precipitate will accumulate in small orifices and low coolant flow locations, such as those created by a leaking liner insert. As the precipitate accumulates, the leak will slow substantially or stop completely. This process will happen gradually over several weeks of run time. The interface should be appropriately cleaned and monitored during this time to ensure that the leaks are slowed and stopped. This is NOT a conventional stop leak additive. Caterpillar does not recommend using a stop leak additive as it will gum up the cooling system and reduce overall cooling system performance.Add one container of the 8C-3680 Coolant Conditioner to the coolant system. The coolant conditioner should be reapplied if coolant is drained and refilled, for the life of the engine.Total coolant capacities very by application, do not exceed a concentration of 2% coolant conditioner to overall coolant volume for your application. This recommendation applies only if the affected product is equipped with one of the following Reman engines or Reman short blocks and only if the engine has 4000 hours or less:
20R-4668 Complete Engine Ar H4N00101-00223
20R-1363 Complete Engine Ar ZK302000-02099
