Start By:a. separate track assembly Fluid Spillage ContainmentCare must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the machine. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids. Refer to /bq/Tools And Shop Products Guide/eq/, NENG2500 for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids in Caterpillar machines. Dispose fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Before doing any service work which requires separating a track, a through inspection of the front track roller frame must be made. See Special Instruction, Form No. SMHS8273-02.
1. Use Tool (A) and remove the oil from the track roller frame. 2. Remove the bolts that hold retainers (1) on each side of the roller frame.3. Install two 1/2 "-13 NC forcing screws in the retainers. Tighten the forcing screws evenly, and remove the retainers from the roller frame. 4. Fasten a hoist and suitable lifting device to front track roller frame (2). Use the hoist to support the weight of the roller frame.5. Fasten Tooling (B) to front track roller frame (2) and a stationary object as shown.6. Use Tooling (B) to pull front track roller frame (2) part way out the rear track roller frame. 7. Cut Tool (C) to make a tight fit inside the seal assembly.8. Put Tool (C) in position to protect the seal assembly. Remove front track roller frame (2) from the rear track roller frame. The weight of the front track roller frame is 374 kg (825 lb). 9. If necessary, remove sleeve (3) from the front track roller frame. 10. Remove seal assembly (6), ring (5) and bearing (4) from the rear track roller frame.Install Front Track Roller Frames
1. Install bearing (4) and ring (5) in the rear track roller frame.2. Make sure the seal bore in the rear track roller frame is clean and free of dirt, oil and old adhesive.3. Put 7M-7456 Bearing Mount Compound on the seal bore.4. Use Tooling (D) to start seal assembly (6) in the rear track roller frame. 5. Use Tool (E) to seat seal assembly (6) in the rear track roller frame.6. Put clean SAE 30W oil on the bearing, ring and seal assembly. 7. Cut Tool (C) to make a tight fit inside seal assembly (6) when the ends of Tool (C) are put together.8. Put Tool (C) in position in seal assembly (6). Make sure the back leg of Tool (C) is in the gap between the seal assembly and the front track roller frame. 9. If sleeve (3) was removed, heat the sleeve to a maximum temperature of 175° C (347° F). Use temperature resistant gloves to handle the sleeve and install the sleeve on the front track roller frame. 10. Fasten a hoist and suitable lifting device to front track roller frame (2).11. Install the front track roller frame in the rear track roller frame until sleeve (3) is within 25.4 mm (1
