Diagnostic Trouble Codes That Cause the ARD to Be Disabled

3713-7 DPF Active Regeneration Inhibited Due to System Timeout : Not Responding Properly The intake temperature at the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) has not increased as expected during an active regeneration.
This situation has occurred 4 times in 30 seconds.
Diagnostic codes 3484-xx, 168-xx, 3556-6, 4765-xx, 5487-xx, and 6581-6 are not active.
3713-31 DPF Active Regeneration Inhibited Due to System Timeout The temperature in the Aftertreatment Regeneration Device (ARD) has not increased as expected at the start of an active regeneration.
The temperature has not increased within 0.5 seconds.
Diagnostic codes 3484-xx, 168-xx, 3556-6, 5487-xx, and 6581-6 are not active. System OperationWhen a regeneration is initiated, the Electronic Control Module (ECM) expects to see a temperature rise in the ARD within 0.5 seconds. If the temperature does not rise as expected, a 3713-31 code is generated.During a regeneration, the ECM increases the ARD gas temperature in a series of steps. If the DOC intake temperature sensor does not detect a planned temperature increase, a 3713-7 code is generated.Probable Causes

Establish communication between the electronic service tool and the engine ECM.
Confirm that a 3713-xx code is active.
If a 3713-xx code is present, continue with this procedure. ARD Injectors
Check that the electrical plugs are connected to the correct injector. If necessary, correct the connections.The ECM is unable to detect an open circuit in the ARD injector electrical system. If a fault is suspected in the ARD injector electrical system, refer to Troubleshooting, "ARD Nozzle - Test.".If the ARD injectors are operating correctly, proceed to "ARD Air Supply".ARD Air Supply

(1) Air compressor

Use the electronic service tool to perform the ARD Air System Relay Override.
If the ARD Air System Relay Override failed, check the operation of the air pump relay. Refer to Troubleshooting, "ARD Combustion Air - Test".
Inspect air hoses (3) and (5) between the outlet of the air pump and the ARD for restrictions or damage. Replace any damaged hoses.
Use a low-pressure air supply to check that reed valve (4) passes air in the direction of the ARD. If the reed valve does not pass air, replace the reed valve.
Perform an ARD regeneration. If a 3713-xx code is generated, proceed to "ECM". ECM
Make sure that the latest flash file for the application is installed in the ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Flash Programming".
Contact the Technical Communicator at a Cat® dealer. Note: This consultation can greatly reduce the repair time.
If the Technical Communicator recommends the use of a replacement ECM, install a replacement ECM. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Replacing the ECM".
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. Use the electronic service tool to verify that the repair eliminates the fault.
If the fault is eliminated with the replacement ECM, reconnect the suspect ECM. If the fault returns with the suspect ECM, replace the ECM.
