Installation Of The Reinforcement Plates
Repair any cracks in the beam side plates before adding the reinforcement plates. Use the Cat 8T7792 Mini Torch to cut out the cracks, and then fill with weld.1. Referring to Illustration 1, cut out two reinforcement plates. Use 13 mm (.50") thick steel with minimum yield strength of 290 MPa (42,000 psi).

Remove the bolt protectors from each side of the beam assembly. See Illustration 2. Grind the surfaces of the beam side plates smooth.3. Remove ONLY one of the two upper support bolts. (These bolts go all the way through the beam.) See Illustration 2. Do NOT loosen the other bolt at this time. Install one 8F1692 Bolt and two 3S6162 Washers at the location of the removed bolt in the LEFT side plate and the support block as shown in View J-J. Install and tighten the 8H3390 Nut through the opening in the block.

This results in two 8F1692 Bolts, four washers, and the nuts installed only through the LEFT side plate.5. Position a reinforcement plate on the right side of the beam. The two drilled holes on the bottom must align with the two upper bolt holes (from which both bolts were removed in previous steps), and the plate should be parallel to the bottom of the beam side plate. See Illustration 3. Tack weld in place. If the reinforcement plate interferes with the existing doubler plates, remove material from the reinforcement plate.
Illustration 3. Welding the reinforcement plate (right side shown).6. Working on the RIGHT side, install the remaining two 8F1692 Bolts. Install the nuts through the openings in the block. Do NOT use any washers on this side because the bolts have to go through the reinforcement plate. Tighten the nuts.7. Remove the previously installed two bolts, nuts, and washers from the LEFT side of the beam.8. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 on the LEFT side of the beam.9. Remove the LOWER LEFT mounting pad. Mark this pad and the others so they can be reinstalled at the same locations and with the same orientation.10. Weld around the outside edges of the LEFT plate. See Illustration 3. Check to be sure the weld does not interfere with the mounting pad when it is installed.11. Reinstall the mounting pad and tighten bolts.12. Remove the UPPER LEFT mounting pad.13. Weld around the opening in the plate for the upper left pad as shown. Check to be sure the weld does not interfere with the mounting pad when it is installed.14. Reinstall the UPPER LEFT mounting pad and tighten bolts.15. Weld around the two holes near the center of the plate as shown. This now completes all welding on the LEFT side plate.16. Repeat Steps 9
