ARC solenoid circuitThis diagnostic code indicates the brake ECM has determined that a solenoid in the automatic retarder control (ARC) system has current is above normal.This code can be caused by:
Shorted solenoid energize circuit
Failed solenoid
Failed ECM Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these codes, correct the original code, then clear these created codes. Note: Use a calibrated digital multimeter for this procedure.System Response:
CID 0711 FMI 06 is logged into memory
ARC is disabledTest Step 1. CHECK THE SOLENOID
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Observe the status of CID 0711 FMI 06.
One at a time, disconnect the solenoids from the harness.Expected Result:CID 0711 FMI 06 changes to CID 0711 FMI 05 when a solenoid is disconnected.Results:
OK - CID 0711 FMI 06 changes to CID 0711 FMI 05 when a solenoid is disconnected. The solenoid has failed.Repair: Replace the solenoid.STOP
NOT OK - CID 0711 FMI 06 does not change to CID 0711 FMI 05 when a solenoid is disconnected. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK THE SOLENOID ENERGIZE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORTThe solenoid remains disconnected from the harness.
Turn off the keyswitch and the disconnect switch.
Disconnect the J1 and J2 harness connectors for the brake ECM.
At the J1 harness connector, measure the resistance from all contacts in the harness connectors for the ECM to the following: the signal contact J1-67 (wire K989-BU) to.
J1-48 (wire 773-GY)
J1-58 (wire 774-YL)
J1-62 (wire 775-BR)Expected Result:Each resistance is greater than 5000 ohms.Results:
OK - Each resistance is greater than 5000 ohms. Proceed to Test Step 3.
NOT OK - A resistance is less than 5000 ohms There is a short between the wire and the circuit with low resistance.Repair: Repair or replace the harness. STOPTest Step 3. CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE
Verify that the harness connector contacts are:
Clean
Dry
Corrosion free
Reconnect all harness connectors.
Turn on the disconnect switch and the keyswitch.
Operate the machine.
Check CID 0711 FMI 06.Expected Result:CID 0711 FMI 06 is not active. Results:
OK - CID 0711 FMI 06 is not active. Repair: CID 0711 FMI 06 was probably caused by a poor connection at one of the connectors that was disconnected and reconnected.Return the machine to service.STOP
NOT OK - CID 0711 FMI 06 is active. The brake ECM may have failed.Repair: Exit this procedure.Perform this procedure again. If the failure is not found, contact your technical communicator. If ECM replacement is required, see Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace".STOP
