Personal injury or death can result from machine articulation or movement. Machine frames can move and a person can be crushed.Connect the steering frame lock between the front and rear frames before working on the machine.
Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Move the machine to a hard, level surface.
Engage the parking brake and stop the engine.
Install the steering frame lock.
Release the steering system oil pressure. Reference: Refer to Systems Operation, Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release" for the machine that is being serviced.Note: In order to set the steering cylinder crossover relief valves properly, the steering cylinder crossover relief valves must be removed and place on a test bench, or a remote pump must be installed.

Disconnect hose assembly (2) from fitting (1). Plug hose assembly (2).
Assemble fittings and connect the electric hydraulic pump to fitting (1). Install an 8T-0860 Pressure Gauge between the electric hydraulic pump and fitting (1).
Operate the electric hydraulic pump until steering crossover relief valve (4) opens. The pressure should be 19300 170 kPa (2800 25 psi).

If the pressure setting is incorrect, loosen locknut (6). Turn adjusting screw (5) clockwise in order to increase the pressure setting. Turn adjusting screw (5) counterclockwise in order to decrease the pressure setting.
After the correct pressure setting has been obtained, tighten locknut (6). Recheck the pressure setting.
Remove the test equipment and connect hose assembly (2).
If necessary, perform Step 4 through Step 10 for steering cylinder crossover relief valve on the right side steering cylinder.
