Calibration Procedure
Place the teeth of the ripper so the tip is barely touching the ground.
Press the "CLEAR" switch for half a second. The current position of the ripper will be used as a zero point.
The transmission ECM will automatically calibrate the high end and the low end of the displacement of the ripper. The transmission ECM performs the calibration as the ripper is used during normal operation. To ensure that the values are calibrated, keep the ripper all the way up for 1 minute. Then, keep the ripper at zero point (ground) for 1 minute.Note: The Caterpillar Monitoring System can display the position of the ripper in the hourmeter mode. The position will not be shown if any of the following conditions are present:
The system is being powered up.
The parking brake is on.
The sensor for the ripper is faulty.
The CAT Data Link is faulty.
The angle of the ripper is valid, but the value is greater than 75% above ground for at least 5 seconds. If none of the above conditions are met, then the angle of the ripper is displayed as a percentage from zero to 100. If the ripper is above ground, an arrow will be displayed with the percentage. If the ripper is below ground, a down arrow will be displayed with the percentage. Articulation Angle Sensor Calibration
The transmission ECM uses the main display module on the Caterpillar Monitoring System for showing diagnostic information to service personnel. Diagnostic information concerning the transmission ECM is sent on the CAT Data Link to the Caterpillar Monitoring System. Service personnel must be familiar with the Caterpillar Monitoring System in order to troubleshoot the transmission ECM. The Caterpillar Monitoring System has several different modes of operation. For troubleshooting and calibrating the transmission ECM, service personnel must place the Caterpillar Monitoring System in certain modes of operation. The 4C-8195 Service Tool allows personnel to access information that is related to service. The service tool attaches to the connector that is located behind a plate directly below the Caterpillar Monitoring System. The connector has four pins.In order to access mode 6 for the transmission ECM, perform the following procedure:

Display Area (Mode 6)
Depress both the service "SET" and "CLEAR" switches on the service tool. When both switches are pressed, the Caterpillar Monitoring System will scroll to different display modes in the display area. Display mode 6 is used by the transmission ECM. The two switches should be held until the Caterpillar Monitoring System display area shows "-6-".
Once in display mode 6, Caterpillar Monitoring System sends the status of the service "SET", "CLEAR", and operator switches to the transmission ECM. The transmission ECM tells the Caterpillar Monitoring System the text to display.
The "SET" switch must be pressed and held until the display area is in submode -6.9-. Use submode -6.9- in order to calibrate the sensor for the articulation angle. Calibration
