Diesel engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may cause personal injury.Always start and operate the engine in a well ventilated area, and, if in an enclosed area, vent the exhaust to the outside.
Personal injury can result from rotating and moving parts. Stay clear of all rotating and moving parts.Never attempt adjustments while the machine is moving or the engine is running unless otherwise specified.The machine must be parked on a level surface and the engine stopped.Attach a "Do Not Operate" or similar warning tag to the start switch and controls before servicing, repairing, or making adjustments to the machine.
In order to prevent personal injury from accidental screed movement, lock the screed in the RAISED position by using the service lock lever to extend the lock pins after the screed is fully raised.

Note: This procedure requires operation of the tractor controls. Refer to the machine Operation and Maintenance Manual for the tractor to which the screed is attached.Each main screed section is equipped with a deflector plate. These plates must be set higher than the screed plates. The following procedure describes how to check and adjust the height of the deflector plates.Check Preparation
Drive the machine to a smooth, horizontal surface.
Rest the screed on the service locks. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual of the tractor for this procedure.
Fully extend the extenders. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual of the tractor for this procedure.
Stop the engine. Refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual of the tractor for this procedure.Check Procedure
Note: The following check procedure is shown on the left side of the main screed. Use the same procedure to check the deflector plate on the right side of the main screed.

Place a straight edge along the outboard edge of the main screed plate. Measure from the bottom of the screed plate to the bottom of deflector plate (1). Do this measurement on the opposite side of this screed section also. The distance on both sides of the screed should be dimension (A), given in "Specifications" Table 1.
Perform the last step on the opposite side of the main screed.
If the measurements recorded in the previous steps are inside the specified range, the deflector plates are installed properly. If any measurement is outside the specified range, perform "Adjustment Procedure".Adjustment Procedure

Loosen three screws (2) from retainer plate (3). Do not remove the screws.

Loosen four screws (4) from deflector plate (5). Do not remove the screws.
Position deflector plate (5) to obtain distance (A).
Hold deflector plate (5) in position, and tighten four screws (4).
If necessary, repeat the previous three steps for the deflector plate on the other half of the main screed.
Position retainer plate (3), and tighten three screws (2).
Perform "Check Procedure".
