Remove the front tire and rim. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Tire and Rim (Front) - Remove and Install".
Remove the service brake (front caliper). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Service Brake (Front Caliper) - Remove".
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Position a suitable container under the front wheel in order to contain the oil for storage or for disposal. Remove drain plug (3) and drain the oil from the front wheel. The capacity of each front wheel is 7.5 L (2.0 US gal).
Remove six bolts (2) and the washers that hold cover (1) in place. Install two 3/8 in - 16 NC forcing screws into cover (1). Tighten the forcing screws in order to remove the cover. The weight of the cover is 8.2 kg (18 lb). Remove the O-ring seal from cover (1).

Attach Tooling (A) to front wheel assembly (4). Position a suitable lifting sling on Tooling (A). Secure the suitable lifting sling to a hoist. Support the weight of the front wheel housing.
Remove eight bolts (5). Install two 3/8 in - 16 NC forcing screws into retainer (6). Tighten the forcing screws in order to remove the retainer.
Remove the shim pack (not shown) and remove roller bearing cone (7).
Remove front wheel assembly (4) from the machine. The weight of the front wheel assembly is 490 kg (1080 lb).

Remove the outer half of Duo-Cone seal (8) from the wheel. Remove roller bearing cup (9) from each side of the wheel.

Remove the inner half of Duo-Cone seal (8) from retainer (10). Remove roller bearing cone (11) from the spindle.
Remove retainer (10) from the spindle and remove the O-ring seal from the retainer.
