The height control (1) and the power sloper control (2) are three-position switches. The switches automatically return to the center position. The slope relay disables the circuit for the height adjuster when you adjust the slope. If you adjust both switches at the same time, the slope will run because of the relay.

When height control (1) or power sloper control (2) is moved, a signal is sent to a motor (2). This motor is connected to worm shaft (3). Splines on worm shaft (3) mesh with the outer splines of worm gear (4). The splines of screw (5) mesh with the inner splines of worm gear (4). Screw (5) is fastened to the screed extensions and the screw cannot rotate. Therefore, when the motor rotates, worm shaft (3) and worm gear (4) rotate. As worm gear (4) rotates, screw (5) will raise or the screw will lower. This will adjust the height or the slope.
