ON - Turn the battery disconnect switch to the right in order to activate all of the cab circuits.

Battery disconnect switch (1) is located on the left side of the machine behind the access door.

Move direction selector (2) to the NEUTRAL position.
Engage parking brake (3) .
Turn engine start switch key (4) to the ON position. The monitoring system performs an automatic self test. The action alarm sounds and all of the indicator lights come on briefly. The indicator light for the parking brake will stay on. If the implement controls are locked out, the indicator light for the hydraulic lockout will stay on. The indicator light for the parking brake stays on until the parking brake is released. The indicator light for the hydraulic lockout stays on until the controls are unlocked. If the system detects a fault, check the electrical system. Make all of the necessary repairs before you start the engine.
If the action alarm does not sound during this test or machine monitoring displays are not functioning, do not operate the machine until the cause has been corrected. Machine operation with faulty action alarms or displays could result in injury or death as any Warning Category 3 notifications will not be relayed to the operator.
Turn engine start switch key (4) to the START position. Crank the engine. Release the key when the engine starts.See the Topic "Starting With Engine Prelubrication System". This article is located in the "Engine Starting" section of this manual.
Do not crank the engine for more than 30 seconds. Allow the starter to cool for two minutes before cranking again. Turbocharger damage can result if the engine rpm is not kept low until the oil gauge display verifies that the oil pressure is sufficient.
Ether Starting Aid
Ether Starting Aid (If equipped) - Push in the button for the ether starting aid. When the button is released, a premeasured amount of ether is injected into the engine air intake.
Inject starting aid (ether) while cranking the engine, or after initial start-up, until the engine is running smoothly.Use sparingly. Excessive ether without cranking can cause piston and ring damage.Use ether for cold starting purposes only.After 30 seconds of engine cranking, allow two minutes for starting motor to cool before cranking again.Turbocharger damage can result, if the engine speed is not kept low until the engine oil gauge verifies the oil pressure is sufficient.
For starting below −18°C (0°F), the use of the cold weather starting aids is recommended. A fuel heater, a jacket water heater, and extra battery capacity may be required.At temperatures below −23°C (−10°F), consult your Caterpillar dealer. For information on starting the engine in cold weather, refer to the Operation and Maintenance Manual, SEBU5898, "Cold Weather Recommendations for all Caterpillar Machines".Engine Starting with Prelubrication System (If Equipped)
Move the transmission direction control lever to the NEUTRAL position.
Engage the parking brake.
Move the implement control levers to the HOLD position. Use the switch for hydraulic lockout control in order to deactivate the inputs to the hydraulic
