One of the following conditions must be met towarrant cylinder pack replacement:
Blowby exceeding 59 cubic meters/hour (2100 cubicfeet/hour). (Reference SEHS8984 and SEHS8712 for measurement method.)
Crankcase pressure at or above 1.5 kpa (.25 psi,6 in water).
Oil consumption at or above 60 gal fuel/qt oil.
Boroscope inspection of cylinder revealing linerwear or scuffing.
Worn top ring groove in excess of reuse guidelines,broken ring or liner wear in excess of reuse guidelines.
Eligibility criteria: (Must meet these guidelinesto claim program.)
RTV applied to air inlet pipes per TIBU3424.
Oil change interval of 250 hours, per operationand maintenance manual.
Multigrade CG-4 API approved oil acceptable, CH-4preferred.
Oil to be changed at or below 120% soot levelsper TIBU3539.

Drain coolant and fuel system if engine is inmachine.
Remove engine from machine.
Drain engine oil and fuel.
Remove all cylinder heads from engine.
Remove crankcase covers and camshaft covers.
Remove all cylinder packs from engine.
Inspect pistons, rings and liners for wear andfailure. Reuse if possible.
Inspect camshafts and lifters for wear and failure.Perform PS20038 if necessary. (This labor should be claimed on PS20038.)
Install new cylinder packs, rod bearings and seals.
Clean and inspect cylinder heads. Install backonto engine.
Perform applicable mid-life inspections and componentreplacements as appropriate per the operation and maintenance manual, SEBU7185,including injectors. 2 micron fuel filters should be used. (Labor and partsnot included in this service letter.)
Inspect inlet air lines immediately before andafter turbocharger. Replace as necessary.
Perform inspections and apply additional productsupport programs as necessary. (Labor and parts not included in this serviceletter.)
Install engine software file 2030845 onto ECM.
Install engine into machine.
This service letter is not intendedto offset labor or part costs as noted in steps 8, 11, and 13. Overhaullabor, including R&I of gear train covers or main bearings, are notcovered. The intent of this program is to replace failed cylinder packsand air inlet lines only. Reference other literature, including PS20038,Machine Engine Cams; PS41000, D11R Turbos; PS50463, Cluster Idler StubShaft Bolts; SEPD0556, Exhaust Valve Stem Seals.
