Remove existing manifolds from cylinderhead.
Remove all manifold studs.
Machine existing manifolds as per MachiningWork Instructions and follow Installation Instructions for 3408E or 3412Eengines.

Machining Work Instructions
The inner manifold within each jointmust be machined to provide a looser joint with seal rings for exhaustsealing. This will allow the manifold sections to expand and contract individually,therefore reducing the risk of the manifolds shearing the exhaust manifoldstuds.
3408E engines require 2 manifold reworksand 3412E engines require 4 manifold reworks. The wall thickness of themanifold must be at least 7.0 mm (0.28 inch) in order for the manifoldto be reworked.
Refer to Diagram A for machining featuresrequired on each inner manifold and follow these steps;
Machine the outside diameter of themanifold to 78.70 mm (3.098 inch).
Machine the two 2.64 mm (0.1039 inch)grooves in the outside of the manifold and provide slight groove edge deburr,as indicated in diagram.
Install two 1007401 Exhaust Seal Assemblieson the manifold, required for each manifold interface.
Clean any carbon and/or deposits fromthe inside diameter of the mating exhaust manifold.
Installation Instructions
Sub-assemble manifolds prior to installingon engine. Typical 3408E and 3412E exhaust manifold systems are shown inDiagrams B and C, respectively.
Install all new studs. Tighten to 30 5 N m.
Install new exhaust gaskets.
Install pre-assembled manifolds tocylinder head using 1654638 centering tools (use one centering tool permanifold section).
Install spacers, washers, and studlocknuts.
Tighten all locknuts to a pre-torqueof 20 3 N m according to sequence shown in Diagram D, removingcentering tools as needed.
Tighten all locknuts to 35 5 N m according to sequence shown in Diagram D.
