Schematic of the Joystick Lift position sensor
This diagnostic code is set when the Implement ECM intermittently receives an invalid signal from the Joystick Lift position sensor. The received signal may have an abnormal pulse width, an abnormal frequency, or an abnormal time period. Possible causes for this diagnostic code are:
Intermittent open circuit in the sensor wiring.
Intermittent short circuit in the sensor wiring.
Intermittently, the sensor is failing.Note: With FMI 08 codes, always check if an FMI 03, 04, 05, or 06 code has also been set for the same circuit. Always repair those other codes first, before attempting to repair the FMI 08 diagnostic code.Note: Poor connections are often the cause of a problem in electrical circuits. Before performing this procedure, inspect all the machine harnesses and connectors involved in the circuit. Make sure to verify that all of the connections in the circuit are clean, secure, and in good condition. Correct any problems found with any of the connections. Verify the diagnostic code CID 0352 FMI 08 is still active, before continuing with this procedure.Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore all the created diagnostic codes now, but clear all those codes after the cause for the original diagnostic code has been corrected. System Response:
Intermittently, machine lift functions will not work.Test Step 1. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT
Turn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
Disconnect the sensor harness connector.
At the harness connector of the Joystick Lift position sensor, place a jumper wire, from the contact for wire H723-PK(Pink) to the contact for wire 953-GY(Grey) in the sensor harness connector.
Disconnect both the J1 and J2 harness connectors from the Implement ECM.
At the ECM harness connectors, measure the resistance from contact J2-14 (wire H723-PK(Pink)) to contact J1-15 first, and then to contact J1-16, both (wire 953-GY(Grey)) in the J1 harness connector. Note: Always check both parallel ground wire connections. Always repair or replace any of the parallel wires found open.Expected Result:Each measurement is less than 5 ohms. Results:
YES - Each measurement is less than 5 ohms. Go to Test Step 2
NO - A resistance measured is not less than 5 ohms. The sensor circuits have an open wire. Repair: Repair or replace the harness.Go to Test Step 3. Test Step 2. CHECK THE HARNESS FOR A SHORT CIRCUIT
The key start switch and the disconnect switch stay in the OFF position.
The sensor harness connector stays disconnected.
Remove the jumper wire from the connector.
The ECM harness connectors stay disconnected.
At the ECM connectors, measure the resistance from contact J2-14 (wire H723-PK(Pink)) to all other contacts used in the J1 and J2 ECM connectors. Expected Result:The resistance is greater than 5 ohms. Results:
YES - Each measurement is more than 5000 ohms. Go to Test Step 3.
NO - A resistance measured is not more than 5000 ohms. The sensor output signal wire is shorted in the harness. Repair: Repair or replace the harness.Go to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. CHECK THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE
