If terminal P1-30 (output 1) of the ECM is used for another function, a lamp that operates independently of the ECM may be used. A double-pole switch can be used for the PTO on/off switch. Wire the circuit for the PTO switch on lamp to one of the on/off poles of the double-pole switch. The other poles of the switch are used for the circuit of the PTO on/off switch.

Note: The following troubleshooting procedure can only be used to diagnose the circuit that is shown in Illustration 1. For information that is related to troubleshooting this wiring, return the vehicle to the OEM dealer for the repair.Test Step 1. Inspect the Electrical Connectors and the Wiring
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position.

Thoroughly inspect the J1/P1 ECM connector and the vehicle's firewall bulkhead connector. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for details.

Perform a 45 N (10 lb) pull test on each of the wires in the ECM connector that are associated with the lamp circuit.
Check the allen head screw for each of the ECM connectors for the proper torque. Refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for the correct torque values.
Check the harness and wiring for abrasion and for pinch points from the battery to the ECM. Expected Result:All connectors, pins and sockets are completely coupled and/or inserted and the harness and wiring are free of corrosion, of abrasion and of pinch points.Results:
OK - The harness and connectors appear to be OK. Proceed to Test Step 2.
Not OK - There is a problem with the connectors and/or wiring.Repair: Repair the connectors or wiring and/or replace the connectors or wiring. Ensure that all of the seals are properly in place and ensure that the connectors are completely coupled. Verify that the repair eliminates the problem.STOPTest Step 2. Check for Normal Operation of the Lamp
Turn the keyswitch to the ON position. Start the engine.
Activate the PTO by using the PTO on/off switch. Check for the illumination of the PTO switch on lamp. Deactivate the PTO and check for the illumination of the lamp. For a lamp that is operating correctly, the lamp will illuminate while the PTO is active. The lamp will not illuminate while the PTO is not active.
Turn the keyswitch to the OFF position. Expected Result:The lamp operates correctly during the activation of the PTO.Results:
OK - The lamp operates correctly during the activation of the PTO.Repair: The lamp appears to operating correctly at this time. There may be an intermittent electrical problem in the harness or in a connector. If an intermittent problem is suspected, refer to Troubleshooting, "Electrical Connectors - Inspect" for information that is related to troubleshooting intermittent electrical problems.STOP
