Information:

1. Drain the oil from the hydraulic tank. Put identification on all hoses, tubes, lines, and wires for installation purposes.2. Disconnect oil lines (1) and (2) from the steering metering unit. 3. Remove four nuts (3) that hold the steering metering unit in place.4. Remove steering metering unit (4) from steering wheel shaft. The following steps are for the installation of the steering metering unit. 5. Put steering metering unit (4) in position on the steering wheel shaft and install four nuts (3) that hold it in place. 6. Connect oil lines (3) and (1) to the steering metering unit.6. Fill the hydraulic tank to the correct level. See the Maintenance Manual.Disassemble Steering Metering Unit
Start By:a. remove steering metering unit It is necessary to disassemble this pump in a vertical position as shown so the parts stay in their relative position. 1. Remove the bolts that hold plate (1) in position. Remove plate (1) and the O-ring seal. 2. Remove barrel (2) and O-ring seal (3) from the steering metering unit. 3. Remove spacer (4) and rotor (5) from the housing. 4. Remove drive (6) and plate (7) from housing (8). 5. Remove O-ring seal (9) and spool and sleeve assembly (10) as a unit.6. Turn housing (8) upside down and remove the race, bearing and race from the bore. 7. Remove pin (13) from sleeve (12) and spool (11). It is a loose fit between the pin and sleeve and spool. If this pin moves out of position and into one of the openings (slots) in housing (8), it can make disassembly difficult. 8. Remove spool (11) from sleeve (12).
The six leaf springs are under compression.
9. Carefully remove six springs (14) from the spool. 10. Remove spiral lockring (15) and bushing (16) and O-ring seal from housing (8). Remove plug (17). 11. Remove two seals (18). 12. Install a 10-24 NC screw (19) into the seat.13. Remove seat (23), ball (21) and retainer (20) from the housing.14. Remove two O-ring seals (22) and (24) from the seat.Assemble Steering Metering Unit
1. Install O-ring seals (3) and (5) on seat (4).2. Install retainer (1), ball (2), seat (4) and plug (6) in the housing. Tighten the plug to an approximate torque of 11 N m (99 lb in). Plug must be even or below the surface. 3. Install seal (8). Install lip seal (7) with tool group (A) as shown in the bushing. 4. Put O-ring seal (9) and bushing (11) in position in the housing. Install spiral lockring (10). 5. Install three springs in spool (12) with the notch in the springs down. Make a compression of the springs with a screw driver from the inside of the spool. Install the three springs as shown. Soft jaws must be used if the spool is held in a vise.6. Install spool (12) into sleeve while an alignment of the springs and the opening (slot) in the sleeve is made. 7. Put pin (14) in position in sleeve (13). Put
