ENGINES
C-10 (3CS),
C-12 (2KS),
3406E (1MM, 2WS) TRUCK ENGINESProblem:
There have been some reports of excessive time being required to Flash these engines. Solution:
The normal Flash time for ADEM2000 software is 12 to 25 minutes. If you experience longer times or aborting Flashes or think there may be a communications problem, consider the following list of items:1. If flashing through the cab connector aborts or is excessively long, use the Communication Harness to communicate directly to the Electronic Control Module (ECM). We have received several calls from people who have not yet ordered a Communication Harness. This harness can save troubleshooting time and can be used on 3126B, and the 1999 C-10, C-12 and 3406E ADEM2000 Truck Engines. The previous ADEM2000 Communication Bypass Harness part number was 135-5063. This harness has be replaced with the new 167-9225 Communication Bypass Harness. Either harness will work. Make sure you have one available.2. Make sure the Flash File is on the PC hard drive and not merely on a floppy disk or on a CD ROM. This solves a majority of the Flash aborting problems.3. Turn off all power management features so the PC does not "suspend".4. Make sure the lap top is plugged in or has a well charged battery.5. Make sure there is no "infrared port" enabled on the computer.6. Try Flashing a test ECM or known good ECM to verify the PC, cables, and flash file. 7. If someone has furnished the Flash File to you on a floppy disk, consider the possibility that the floppy disk may have been damaged, corrupting the file. Re-copy the Flash File from the SIS disk to the hard drive or re-download to make sure the Flash File is not corrupted.8. Make sure the ECM communicates with WinFlash before considering the ECM unable to communicate. Remember a blank ECM will not communicate with ET, a blank ECM will only communicate with WinFlash until the ECM is flashed.9. Make sure the ECM Key Switch power and cables are uninterrupted during the entire Flashing period. 10. Do NOT Flash any file from another application into the ECM. That is, do not Flash a 1999 ADEM2000 file into a 1998 engine ECM or a D-10 Tractor file into a truck ECM. This may cause the ECM memory to permanently corrupt and the ECM may not be re-Flashable. The ECM may not communicate with ET or WinFlash. The ECM may have to be scrapped as a result.11. Another quick fix is to start ET. It does not matter if you are connected to an ECM for this. Under the "Settings" menu, choose "Preferences". In the "Communications" tab, push the "Advanced" button. Change the baud rate to 9600 baud and hit the "OK" button. This will make the communication rate common giving the ECM the maximum amount of time to process the data transfer.12. Lastly, there may be a setting in the initialization file of ET that can be modified to improve the Flash process when using a MPSI product
