SAE Hose Specifications
ESCO recommends that you use SAE 100R12 or equivalent when replacing hydraulic hoses.Welding ESCO® alloys used in Mechanized Forest Products
All persons performing maintenance work should wear OSHA approved protective hat, protective shoes and glasses, and protective gloves.
Electrode Selection
Use E-7016 or E-7018 low hydrogen electrodes to weld these alloys to each other or to other low alloy or carbon steel castings or forgings.See section on "Controlling Moisture in Low Hydrogen Electrodes" below.Material Preparation
Preheat heavy sections (1-1/2" thick (40mm) or more) with torch to 350 ° to 400 °F (177-204 °C). Preheat lighter sections to 200 °F (93 °C). Check temperature with Tempilstik.Bevel joints to allow 100% weld penetration.Welding
Use stringer bead technique with a single bead weave width not to exceed 3 times diameter of stick electrode or 5 times diameter of flux cored wire.Remove slag after each pass. Peen each bead to reduce stress concentrations.Maintain interweld temperature of less than 500 °F (260 °C).Controlling Moisture in Low Hydrogen Electrodes
Purchase low hydrogen electrodes in 10 pound (4.5kg) hermetically sealed containers. Larger containers may have electrodes with too much moisture, which can result in underbead cracking.Electrodes pick up moisture when exposed to air. After opening container, keep electrodes dry, and: 1. Remove only 1 hour supply at one time. Keep the remainder in a ventilated holding oven at 225 °F (105 °C).2. If partially used container is stored for later use, bake in 500 °F (260 °C) ventilated oven for 2 hours before using again.3. If electrodes are taken from cardboard box or other non-airtight container, do not use until they have been baked 2 hours in 500 °F (260 °C) ventilated oven. Then place in ventilated holding oven at 225 °F (105 °C) while still warm, and remove only 1 hour's supply at a time.4. Any electrode exposed to air for more than 1 hour should be re-baked per step 2.
