Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Tools and Shop Products Guide" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Caterpillar products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Prepare the machine for testing and adjusting.Reference: Testing and Adjusting, "Preparation for Troubleshooting"

Pressure Tap (PL) on the Main Valve
If necessary, attach the adapter to the pressure tap (PL) that is located on right side of the main valve. Attach the 198-4240 Digital Pressure Indicator to the pressure tap or the adapter. Set the pressure indicator to the "PSI" setting. Note: The pressure tap is clearly marked on the inlet section of the main valve.
Start the engine. Press the operating mode switch in order to activate the working mode (wheel harvesters). Turn the engine speed dial until the engine is operating at 1300 rpm. Make sure that the switch for the controller is in the ON position.
Raise the harvester head approximately 0.9 m (3 ft) above the ground.

Main Valve (1) Adjustment screw (close arm). (2) Adjustment screw (open arm). (3) Control valve (holding arm).
Loosen the locknuts on adjustment screws (1) and (2). Turn adjustment screws (1) and (2) clockwise one full turn in order to increase the pressure.
Do not hold this function or any other function stalled for more than 5 seconds. Hydraulic oil is heated very rapidly when the oil is channeled through relief valves. Component damage could result.
Press the button for the holding arm open on the hand controls. Open the holding arm until the holding arm stops opening. Read the pressure on the pressure indicator. The pressure should be 12500 kPa (1800 psi).
