G3600Engine News SEBD9235, 9 May 1996, "New High Temperature Resistant Seal Group And O-Ring Seal Used In Water Pump Groups". Disregard the article. Refer to the information that follows.Description of Change: Changes have been made in order to improve the reliability of water pumps in the above listed engines.An improved seal group is used. The new seal has a face that is made from graphite loaded silicon carbide. The new material will increase the life of the sealing faces.A new spacer is used with the impeller retaining bolt. The new spacer is used to allow more accurate torquing of the impeller retaining bolt so that the bolt will not work loose.Adaptable To: The 118-8086 Face Seal Group and the 9Y-5632 Face Seal Group have been cancelled and replaced by the 292-5982 Face Seal Group .The new 301-9585 Spacer can be used for a sea water pump or for a jacket water pump. The 4W-0234 Spacer is less expensive to use for a jacket water pump. The 301-9585 Spacer replaces several former parts. Refer to Table 1. The new parts have the same dimensions as the former parts and can be used in the former pumps without modifications.The new parts for the water pumps are adaptable to the engines that are listed above. Serial number effectivity is listed in Table 2.
