Before the engine is serviced or the engine is repaired, attach a "DO NOT OPERATE" warning tag to the start switch and/or to the controls. Attach the warning tags at the engine and at each operator control station. To avoid potential problems, disconnect the starting controls whenever disconnection will be appropriate.Do not allow unauthorized personnel on the engine when the engine is being serviced. Do not allow unauthorized personnel around the engine when the engine is being serviced.Engine exhaust contains products of combustion which may be harmful to your health. Always start the engine in a well ventilated area. Always operate the engine in a well ventilated area. If the engine is in an enclosed area, vent the engine exhaust to the outside.Follow these procedures when you work on an engine or around an engine:
Wear a hard hat, protective glasses, and other protective equipment, as required.
Ensure that all protective guards and all covers are secured in place on the engine.
Do not wear loose clothing around the engine. Do not wear jewelry around the engine.
Never put maintenance fluids into glass containers. Glass containers can break causing personal injury. Drain all fluids into a suitable container.
Use all cleaning solutions with care. Report all necessary repairs.Unless other instructions are provided, perform the maintenance under the following conditions:
The engine is stopped.
Disconnect the batteries when maintenance is performed. If the engine has electric starting motors, disconnect the battery ground leads. Tape the leads in order to help prevent accidental starting.
Do not attempt any repairs to the engine while the engine is running.
Do not attempt any adjustments to the engine while the engine is running.
Do not attempt any repairs that are not understood.
Use the proper tools.
Replace any damaged components.
