Fuel consumption more closely follows the load upon the engine.The interval is based on an average value for a reasonable load factor. The interval will be too high if the engine is run at high load and too low if the engine is lightly loaded.Use the time or distance figure only as a guideline. Other factors, such as how conscientiously preventive maintenance has been performed, fuel quality, operating conditions, S O S results, etc., are important in deciding when to perform an overhaul.To minimize downtime and provide you with the lowest cost and highest value Caterpillar recommends that all 3600 engines be overhauled before failure by scheduling an overhaul.Schedule OVERHAUL for Engines Operating on Distillate Fuel and used in medium duty - mainline application at Every 8 Years or 1 932 000 km (1,200,000 miles).Schedule OVERHAUL for Engines Operating on Heavy Fuel and used in medium duty - mainline application at Every 4 Years or 960 000 km (600,000 miles).The Guidelines For Reusable Parts and Salvage Operations is part of an established Caterpillar parts reusability program. These guidelines were developed to assist Caterpillar dealers and customers to reduce costs by avoiding unnecessary expenditures for new parts when existing parts can be used as is, repaired or salvaged.
