The 357-9152 Joystick Kit contains the parts and the specialized tooling that is necessary to rework the joystick for removal or installation of the detent. A special torque wrench is needed to perform the reconfiguration of the joystick. The torque wrench should accurately exert 2.7 N m (23.89 lb in) on a fastener. The Special Instruction, REHS4397, "Installation and Removal of the Detent in the Joystick control for the steering in M-Series Motor Graders" provides the instructions for removing the detent from the joystick. The joystick that does not have a center detent provides an alternative to performing a "Straight Ahead Calibration" of the steering system. The need to perform a "Straight Ahead Calibration" has been reduced once the center detent has been removed from the left-hand joystick. The machine owner and the machine operator should be made aware of any change of the center detent in the left-hand joystick. The detent provides indication of the center position after the completion of the reconfiguration of the joystick.Note: The 357-9152 Joystick Kit contains a detent plunger. The detent plunger and the tools could be used in the future if the machine owner decides to configure the joystick to utilize the detent.Note: A "Straight Ahead Calibration" should only be necessary if the machine does not drive straight on level ground. And also the detent that indicates the lateral center position of the joystick has been reinstalled due to a request from the customer.Note: The 357-9152 Joystick Kit should be used if a "SIMS" is submitted for a reconfiguration of the joystick. The reconfiguration of the left-hand joystick from detent to the absence of a detent is performed to satisfy an individual customer preference. Hence the reconfiguration of the joystick is not included in standard warranty coverage.Note: Removal of the center detent is beneficial
