Pressurized system: Hot oil can cause serious burns. To open plug, stop engine, wait until axle is cool. Then loosen plug slowly to relieve the pressure.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.

Position the wheels so that the final drive drain plugs are facing downward.
Remove the final drive drain plugs and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. Dispose of the used oil properly.
Clean the drain plugs and install the drain plugs.

Rear Differential
Remove differential drain plugs (1) and allow the oil to drain into a suitable container. Dispose of the used oil properly.
Clean the drain plugs and install the drain plugs.
Remove differential filler plugs (2). Fill the differentials to the bottom of the filler plug openings.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the correct type of oil and for the correct amount of oil.
Clean the filler plugs and install the filler plugs.

Position each wheel so that the filler plugs for the final drives are flush with the centerline of each wheel. Remove the filler plugs.
Fill the final drives to the bottom of the filler plug openings.Reference: Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Lubricant Viscosities and Refill Capacities" for the correct type of oil and for the correct amount of oil.
Clean the filler plugs and install the filler plugs.
If the specified amount of oil will not fit in the final drives, install the final drive filler plugs. Operate the machine on level ground for a few minutes in order to equalize the oil level in the axles.
Remove the final drive filler plugs and add the remaining oil.
Operate the machine for a few minutes and recheck the oil level. The oil level should reach the bottom of the filler plug opening.Note: If the oil level is higher than the filler plug opening, do not allow the oil to drain to the proper level. Install the filler plug.
