Remove the power train filter (rear axle). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Power Train Filter (Rear Axle) - Remove". Note: Cleanliness is an important factor. Before the disassembly procedure, the exterior of the component should be thoroughly cleaned. This will help to prevent dirt from entering the internal mechanism.

Position the power train filter (rear axle) onto a suitable work bench.
Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a released spring force.Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to release the spring force.
Remove filter bypass switch (1) and the O-ring seal from final drive oil filter base (2).

Remove O-ring plug (4) and the O-ring from housing (3).
Remove housing (3), the O-ring seal, and the hydraulic filter element (not shown) from final drive filter base (2).

Hold retainer (7) down in order to keep spring (5) (not shown) in compression as retaining ring (6) is removed.
Use Tool (A) (not shown) in order to remove retaining ring (6).
Remove retainer (7) and spring (5) (not shown) from housing (3).

Remove spool (8) and spring (9) from final drive filter base (2).

Remove two O-ring plugs (4) and the O-ring seals from final drive filter base (2).
Remove O-ring plug (10) and the O-ring seal from final drive filter base (2).
