Effective Length of the Tow Arm
The automation sensors move the tow arms upward and the automation sensors move the tow arms downward in order to maintain the null points on the sensors. Essentially, the location of the sensor becomes the control point. To regain the null point at the sensor, the tow point is the only point that should raise the tow arm and the tow point is the only point that should lower the tow arm. The effective length of tow arm is the distance between the control point and the pivot point. The screed moves five tow arm lengths in order to react to any corrections. If the distance of the effective tow arm length is shortened, the time that is needed for a correction is shortened. This will increase the time of reaction. If you move the sensor near the screed, the time of reaction will increase. If you move the sensor near the tow point, the time of reaction decreases. Note: Never mount the sonic sensor behind the centerline of the augers or in front of the tow point. This can cause severe over correction.

Mounting of the Sonic Grade Sensor
Illustration 2 g00950280
The sonic sensor may be mounted with the stud (1) in any direction. The sensor's face (3) must be pointed directly at the grade reference. The sensor's angle with the grade reference must not exceed 100°. The distance from the sensor's face to grade reference should be 355.6 12.7 mm (14 0.5 inch) in the working position. The sonic sensor has a single red light (2). The red light will flash if the sensor is too close to the grade reference or if the sensor is too far from the grade reference. Reposition the sensor with the mounting brackets in order to correct the problem. See the controller's message display for further information.Mounting of the Wand Grade Sensor
Illustration 3 g00948229
(1) Mounting plate (2) Grade sensor (3) Left hub (4) Skate (5) 25.4 cm (10 inch) grid arm assembly (6) Cable connectorThe wand sensor should be mounted with the wand portion trailing behind and the hub's location faced toward the outside of the paver. (This may be changed with the use of the foreman configuration variables.) Align the stud carefully in order to point in the direction of travel.Mounting of the Slope Sensor
Illustration 4 g00950981
The slope sensor would normally be factory installed, and the slope sensor does not need to be removed unless the slope sensor is faulty. If the slope sensor is replaced, the slope sensor should be installed with the mounting flange's notch (1) at the bottom. The sensor must be adjusted and centered with respect to the screed level.
