Setting the top center position (1) 8T-5096 Dial Indicator Note: Do not remove the front housing for this procedure.
Remove the valve mechanism cover. Remove the belt from the crankshaft pulley.
Rotate the crankshaft pulley in a clockwise direction when you face the front of the engine. Rotate the crankshaft until the pushrod for the inlet valve of the rear cylinder begins to lift the rocker lever.
Remove the front rocker lever. Remove the spring from the front valve.Note: Place a suitable collar near the top of the valve in order to hold the valve if the crankshaft is rotated too far. Use care in rotating the crankshaft. The No. 1 inlet valve will be held in position on top of the piston. If the crankshaft is not properly positioned, the valve may fall from the cylinder head.

Timing marks on the front housing and the crankshaft pulley
Rotate the crankshaft pulley until timing mark (3) on the pulley aligns with "TOP" mark (2) on the front housing. This position of the crankshaft pulley should cause the No. 1 piston to be close to the top center position.Fasten dial indicator (1) to the cylinder head. The contact point of the dial indicator must be in contact with the top of the valve stem. The dial indicator must indicate a reading that is greater than zero.
Rotate the crankshaft by 45 degrees in a counterclockwise direction. Then, rotate the crankshaft by 45 degrees in a clockwise direction. When the dial indicator is at the highest reading, the piston is in the top center position.Timing Of The Fuel Injection Pump
