This Program can be administered either before or after a failure. In either case the decision whether to apply the Program is made by the dealer. When reporting the repair, use "PS8840" as the Part Number and "7755" as the Group Number. If administered before failure, use "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "T" as the SIMS Description Code. If administered after failure, use "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and use "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the January 6, 1997 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Termination Date.

The engines in 980G Wheel Loaders require a larger size air cleaner, precleaner, and inlet lines to keep the inlet restriction with new air cleaner elements to a level that does not seem too high for some customers. An air filtering system should be installed to allow more air flow.

1. Open the hood of the loader.2. Remove the precleaner and the exhaust ejector elbow.3. Remove the inlet hose that is between the air cleaner and the turbocharger. (Install a number 1088 CAPLUG in the compressor inlet to prevent foreign material from entering the turbocharger).4. Remove the parts that are fastened to the top support assembly sufficient to remove the entire support assembly from the machine such as the wiring harness and A/C lines.5. Bolt the new 1339448 Air Cleaner Group to the new 1223328 Bracket Assembly using (4) 8T4195 Bolts and (4) 8T4121 Washers. At this time, remove the cover and check that the air cleaner has both a 6I2505 Primary (outer) and a 6I2506 Secondary (inner) Element installed.6. Attach the old 1223325 Support Assembly to the new 1223328 Bracket Assembly using (5) 8T4195 Bolts and (5) 7X7729 Washers. Then, install the entire support assembly including the air cleaner using the remaining (8) 8T4195 Bolts and (8) 7X7729 Washers. (Do not install the lower inside bolt of the four bolts attaching pattern at this time - it is also used for retaining the air conditioning clamp).7. Install two new 1323421 Bumpers on top of the completed assembly.8. Install the 6V2610 Nipple
