ECM CONFIGURATION WITH CATERPILLAR ELECTRONIC TECHNICIAN (CAT ET)
A new machine electronic control module must be configured at the time of installation. The electronic control module will not function properly if the control module has not been configured. Caterpillar Electronic Technician (Cat ET) is used to access the configuration screen . Refer to the manual that is provided with the Cat ET software for more information.Cat ET Configuration Procedure
Ensure that the key start switch is in the OFF position.
Connect the communications adapter to the computer.
Connect the communications adapter to the diagnostic service tool connector.
Turn the key start switch to the RUN position.
Start Cat ET.
Cat ET will initiate communications with the ECMs on the machine.
Select the appropriate ECM.
Go to the "Service" Menu. Select "Configuration".
Under ECM Identification Parameters, double click "Product ID" and type in the 8 character product ID (machine serial number). Press OK.
Power cycle the ECM. a. Exit Cat ET.b. Turn machine key OFF.c. Turn battery disconnect switch OFF for 5 seconds.d. Turn battery disconnect switch ON.e. Turn the key start switch to the RUN position.f. Start CAT ET.
Go to the "Service" Menu. Select "Synchronize Service Hour Meters". Machine Control ECM should be Master. If incorrect, select "Set Master Hours" and enter the correct hour meter value.
If saved from the ECM Replacement procedure, load the ECM replacement file to configure the ECM using the following steps. If not available, proceed to step 13. a. Go to the "Service" Menu. Select "Copy Configuration" > "ECM Replacement".b. Select the Machine ECM.c. Click "Load from File" and select the saved ECM replacement file.d. Click "Program ECM".
Go to the "Service" Menu. Select "Configuration". Review the ECM settings for correctness and make any necessary adjustments.
Power cycle the ECM. a. Exit Cat ET.b. Turn machine key OFF.c. Turn battery disconnect switch OFF for 5 seconds.d. Turn battery disconnect switch ON.e. Turn the key start switch to the RUN position.f. Start CAT ET.
Go to the active diagnostics screen. Repair any active diagnostic or event codes. Complete any calibrations that are required.
