View of Saw Bar Tensioner (4) Bar guide axles.The attachment for the saw bar moves on two bar guide axles. The bar guide axles extend out of the saw bar tensioner. The bar guide axles are located above the working piston and below the working piston. The attachment for the saw bar has through holes. The bar guide axles and the holes in the attachment for the saw bar must be kept clean and free of burrs. This will allow proper tensioning of the saw chain.The bar guide axles may be cleaned using 600 grit emery cloth. The holes for the bar guide axles can be cleaned using 600 grit emery cloth. Glue the emery cloth onto a 15 mm (0.5 inch) round bar. Use the emery cloth in order to clean the holes for the bar guide axles.Coat the bar guide axles and the corresponding holes in the attachment for the saw bar with 4C-5598 High Temperature Anti-Seize .Adjustment of the guide holes may also be performed by using a reamer. If a reamer is used, make sure that the entire cutting length of the reamer can be inserted into the hole.If the bar guide axles become damaged or worn, the bar guide axles should be replaced. Use the following procedures in order to replace the bar guide axles.

Remove the two set screws (6) that retain the bar guide axles (7) .
Install a grease zerk from your 157-2182 Saw Kit into each of the holes for set screws (6). Apply grease to the fitting. This will expel the old bar guide axles.

Install the new bar guide axles by using a copper mallet. The bar guide axles should be installed so that 46 mm (1.8 inch) of the axle is extended out of the housing.
Make sure that the groove in the bar guide axle is aligned with the hole in the housing for the set screw. Insert the set screw.
