Install washer (26), lock washer (27), and nut (29) on pinion (25). Install the large chamfered end of nut (29) toward lock washer (27).

Position carrier (30) in a suitable vise.
Use Tooling (C) and Tooling (J) to tighten nut (29) (not shown).
Use Tooling (J) to measure the bearing preload. The correct bearing preload is 0.3 N m (3.0 lb in) to 1.35 N m (12.0 lb in).
Bend a tang of lock washer (27) (not shown) in one of the slots in nut (29).

Position carrier (30) to support bracket (34).
Install bolt (28).

Use Tooling (L) to check the backlash of pinion (25). Measure the backlash at three equally spaced teeth on pinion (25). Average the three measurements. The correct backlash is 0.210 0.075 mm (0.0083 0.0030 inch). If necessary, remove support bracket (34) to add or remove shims (36) (not shown).

Install bearing (23) in planetary gear (22).
Position planetary gear (22) and discs (24) in planetary carrier (15).
Install shaft (19) in planetary carrier (15).
If the rubber in pin (21) is damaged, replace pin (21).
Align the hole in shaft (19) with the hole in planetary carrier (15).
Install pin (21). Install pin (21) so that the end of pin (21) is even with the surface of planetary carrier (15).
Repeat Steps 47 through 52 for the two remaining planetary gears.
Install retaining ring (20) in planetary carrier (15).
Use Tooling (B) to compress retaining ring (20).
Position planetary carrier (15) into ring gear (7).
Remove Tooling (B).

Position gear (18) and plate (17) on planetary carrier (15).
Install bolts (16).

Install sun gear (14) in planetary carrier (15).

Install bearing (12) in planetary gear (11).
Position gear (11) and discs (13) in planetary carrier (3).
Install shaft (8).
If the rubber in pin (10) is damaged, replace pin (10).
Align the hole in shaft (8) with the hole in planetary carrier (3).
Install pin (10) until the end of pin (10) is even with the surface of carrier (3).
Repeat Steps 61 through 66 for the three remaining planetary gears.
Install seal ring (9) on planetary carrier (4).

Install planetary carrier (3) in ring gear (7).
Install thrust ring (6) (not shown) and retaining ring (5).
Apply Tooling (M) to the flange of slinger (4). Position slinger (4) on planetary carrier (3).
Install bolts (2).

Install Tooling (A) and a suitable lifting device to planetary carrier (3). The weight of planetary carrier (3) is approximately 48 kg (105 lb).
Position planetary carrier (3).
Remove Tooling (A).

Install the left-hand final drive, the steering differential, and the brake.
