Start By:a. engage parking brakeb. remove crankcase guard groupc. remove fender group ****Refer to the Disassembly And Assembly of the D350E And D400E Articulated Trucks Machine Systems Service Manual, SENR8693. Place the transmission in neutral. 1. Place wooden blocks to the trailer tires. 2. Place steering assembly lock (2) on each steering cylinder (1). 3. Remove four bolts (3). Set aside the right hand deck plate (4). The following steps must be performed to fully extend the front suspension cylinders. Full extension of the front suspension is required in the removal of the front axle. Observe all safety precautions and start the engine.4. Open hand wheel (5) on valve (6) in order to direct oil to the front suspension cylinders.5. After the front suspension has been raised, shut off valve (6) and turn off the engine. Extending the front suspension cylinders can only be completed by performing Steps #4 & 5. 6. Turn the engine OFF. Observe front suspension cylinders (7) to verify that they are fully extended. Disconnect breather line (8) from front axle (9). 7. Use Tool (A) to raise both tractor tires (10) off the floor. Place Tool (B) to the frame as an additional safety measure. 8. Location of Tool (A). 9. Locate Tool (C) at rear of front frame. 10. Remove twenty nuts (11) on front tires. 11. Typical removal of tire from vehicle.12. Repeat Step #10 and 11 to remove the second tire from the front axle. 13. Remove bolt (12), washer and clip that hold tube assembly (13). Disconnect tube assembly (13) from the axle housing. Repeat for the other side of machine. 14. Disconnect hose assembly (14) and repeat for the other side of machine. 15. Disconnect grease line (17). Remove six bolts (15). Set aside left side cradle bearing cap (16). When removing the cradle bearing cap. Four shims (18) will be removed with it. 16. Disconnect grease line (20) from each front suspension cylinder (7). Cut tyraps (19) on grease lines and reposition grease lines. 17. Remove four bolts (21) from front driveshaft (23) and front axle differential group (22). 18. Remove two bolts (24) and washers that hold bracket (25) to the front axle. Move bracket (25) and the hose assemblies out of the way of the front axle. 19. Remove two nuts (26) and washers from the front suspension cylinders. 20. Attach suitable lifting strap and a hoist to the front axle housing. 21. Use a suitable lift truck on other end of the front axle.22. Position Tool (D) under the front axle. 23. Remove bolt (27), washer and tapered pin from each front suspension cylinder. 24. Remove two bolts (28) and washers and frame assembly cap (29) from both sides of the front axle.25. Secure the front axle to the lift truck with Tool (E).26. Lower the front axle on Tool (D) and remove from under the machine. 27. Remove bolt (30) from the cradle mounting pin (31). Repeat this step for the opposite side.
