Return oil flows through a passage to hydraulic tank (1) when relief valve (13) is open. Relief valve (13) opens at 138 kPa (20 psi). The hydraulic pumps draw oil from hydraulic tank (1) through the suction line to the hydraulic pumps.Case drain oil returns to hydraulic tank (1) through case drain return line (3) and case drain return line (7). Case drain oil passes through case drain filter (11). Filter (11) is protected by a separate relief valve (17). Relief valve (17) and filter (11) for the case drain oil function in an identical manner to relief valve (13) and filter (10) for the implement oil.Vacuum relief valve (12) is located on the top of hydraulic tank (1). Vacuum relief valve (12) prevents an excessive increase or an excessive decrease of the pressure in hydraulic tank (1). The pressure changes occur due to changes in oil level and changes in temperature during operation.Hydraulic tank (1) is equipped with an oil level sight gauge (14) on the hydraulic tank.

The oil level switch will signal the Caterpillar Monitoring System when the oil level is low. If the oil level is low in the hydraulic tank, the Caterpillar Monitoring System activates action light (21), oil level indicator (23), and an action alarm.

(25) Service switch (26) Clear switchTo check the hydraulic oil level, change the LED display to mode 5. To change the display mode, both the "Service" switch (25) and the "Clear" switch (26) must be depressed and held. Release the switches when the display is in the mode 5. When mode 5 is entered, the display shows status screen 1. Status screen 1 is identified by the "°C" at the top of the
