Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat® products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Do not allow any dirt or foreign material to get into the hydraulic system during assembly, connection of lines, when components are filled with fluid, or during any maintenance operation.
Personal injury or death can result from sudden work tool movement.Sudden movement of the work tool can cause injury to persons near the work tool.To prevent injury or death, make sure that the area around the work tool is clear of personnel and obstructions before operating the work tool.

Rotate shells (D) until both of the shells (D) are parallel to the ground.
Partly close shells (D) to get access to load holding valve (E).Note: The load holding valve can be accessed from the side of grapple (C) as shown in Illustration 5.
Lower grapple (C) until the grapple (C) is on the ground.
Stop the engine of the host machine. Cycle all of the controls in order to remove the pressure from the hydraulic system.
Close the valves on the auxiliary lines.
Place a suitable container under grapple (C).Note: Dispose of the oil in a proper manner.

Remove load holding valve (E). Discard the part.

Install seals (2) onto plug (1).
Tighten plug to 65 5 N m (48 4 lb ft).
Open the valves on the auxiliary lines.
Purge the air from the hydraulic system. In order to purge the hydraulic system of air, slowly open the shells (4) and close the shells (4) four times. When you are purging the hydraulic system, do not apply any extra hydraulic pressure to the shells.
In order to purge the hydraulic system of air, slowly rotate the grapple (5) for ten revolutions.
