Schematic for the transmission oil cooler (A) Coolant inlet. (B) Coolant outlet. (C) Oil outlet. (D) Oil inlet.The power train oil cooler is located on the right side of the engine. The oil cooler is a water to oil type cooler. The oil cooler uses the coolant from the engine cooling system to cool the oil. System oil with a high temperature comes from the torque converter outlet. This oil enters the oil cooler at inlet (D). The engine coolant enters the oil cooler at inlet (A). Coolant flows through tubes in the cooler. The coolant removes heat from the oil. The coolant then flows out of the oil cooler through outlet passage (B). The coolant is then cooled by the cooling system of the engine.Oil flows along the tubes in the oil cooler. The oil then flows through outlet (C). Outlet (C) is at the side of the cooler. The oil now has a lower temperature. The cooler oil then flows to a manifold on the front of the case. The manifold divides the flow between the transmission and the brakes for lubrication and cooling.
