If equipped, remove the valve and squeeze the outlet tube beneath each filter. Doing so will purge the dirt from the outlet tubes.
Release the latches and remove the filter cover by pulling the cover handle. Clean the filter cover.
Remove primary filter element (5) from the filter housing (3). Inspect the primary filter element. Clean or replace if necessary.Note: Refer to "Inspecting & Cleaning Primary Air Filter Elements".
Always replace the secondary filter element (6). Never attempt to reuse the secondary filter element by cleaning the element. When the primary filter element is replaced, the secondary filter element should be replaced. The secondary filter element should be replaced if the air filter is restricted after the installation of a clean primary filter element.
Remove the secondary filter element. Examine the secondary filter element for cleanliness. Replace if necessary.Note: Replace the secondary filter element if the primary element is replaced. Replace the secondary filter element if the air filter remains restricted after the installation of a primary filter element that has been cleaned.
Cover the air inlet opening. Clean the inside of the air cleaner housing.
Install the secondary element ensuring a good seal to the air filter housing.
Inspect the O-ring seal on the air cleaner cover. Replace the O-ring seal if the O-ring seal is worn or damaged.
Install the clean primary filter.Note: Install the air cleaner cover properly.
Install the air cleaner cover and tighten the wing nut securely.
Replace the filter if the air filter blocked indicator on the monitor display still comes on.
Repeat the process for all filter housings and filter elements.Inspecting & Cleaning Primary Air Filter Elements
Caterpillar recommends certified air filter cleaning services available at participating Caterpillar dealers. The Caterpillar cleaning process uses proven procedures to assure consistent quality and sufficient filter life.Observe the following guidelines if you attempt to clean the filter element:Do not tap or strike the filter element in order to remove dust.Do not wash the filter element.Use low pressure compressed air in order to remove the dust from the filter element. Air pressure must not exceed 207 kPa (30 psi). Direct the air flow up the pleats and down the pleats from the inside of the filter element. Take extreme care in order to avoid damage to the pleats.Do not use air filters with damaged pleats, gaskets, or seals. Dirt entering the engine will cause damage to engine components.
When the primary air filter element is cleaned, check for rips or tears in the filter material. Replace the primary air filter element after the primary air filter element has been cleaned six times. The primary air filter element should be replaced at least one time per year. This replacement should be performed regardless how many times the filter was cleaned.
