(A) Cracks in push arm welds
Illustration 2 g03891302
(A) Cracks in push arm weldsThe D6R (S/N: SSS; TTT; EMM; JEN) equipped with 389-6128 Bulldozer Installation Ar and 450-6403 Bulldozer Installation Ar have had the 179-6151 Push Arm As and 179-6162 Push Arm As crack in the field. The failure results in machine downtime. The crack has been seen on the arm plate weld assembly.Solution

Locate and remove any cracked welds.
Use air arc or oxyacetylene torch to remove the cracked welds
Try to remove only the weld material and create a bevel groove
Remove the weld 100 mm (4 inch) beyond the visible crack
A V notch is needed for proper welding
Illustration 4 g03891435
Detailed view of bevel groove geometry
Locate and remove cracked welds (continued). Repairing the weld between the top plate and side plates, there should be no gap. The plates should fit tightly together. If there is more than a 3 mm (0.12 inch) gap, the backing plate or other method is required.
Prepare to weld.
Use a grinder or wire brush to remove slag left from the cutting operation
Use dye penetrant to verify that the crack is gone. If the crack is still visible, cut back the weld further.
Follow Special Instruction, REHS1841, "General Welding Procedures" for general weld procedures and preparation
