Personal injury or death can result from escaping fluid under pressure.Escaping fluid under pressure, even a very small pin-hole size leak, can penetrate body tissue and cause serious injury and possible death. If fluid is injected into your skin, it must be treated immediately by a doctor familiar with this type of injury.Always use a board or cardboard when checking for a leak.
The drive shaft rotates between the torque converter and the transmission whenever the engine is running. Contact with the rotating shaft can result in personal injury or death. The rotating shaft is located under the implement and steering pumps.Do not allow personnel into the pump bay area behind the cab when the engine is running.
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting, and repair of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers before opening any compartment or disassembling any component containing fluids.Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Dealer Service Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain fluids on Cat products.Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
Machine Preparation for Troubleshooting
Park the machine on a smooth, level surface. Move the machine away from other operating machines and away from personnel.
Permit only one operator on the machine. Keep all other personnel away from the machine or in sight of the operator.
Position the work tool on the ground.
Engage the parking brake.

Release the hydraulic pressure. Refer to the Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".Pressure Test

Ensure that the engine start switch is in the OFF position. Install a 8T-0850 Pressure Gauge from 1U-5481 Pressure Gauge Group or a 198-4240 Digital Pressure Indicator to pressure tap (1) .
Start the engine and warm the hydraulic oil to a normal operating temperature of approximately 54 to 70°C (129 to 158°F).
Run the engine at low idle and the fan control at minimum fan speed.
Observe the pressure gauge.
The pressure reading should be at least 3500 345 kPa (500 50 psi).
If the pressure is correct, turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.
Release the hydraulic pressure. Refer to the Service Manual module Testing and Adjusting, "System Pressure - Release".
Remove the test equipment from the machine.
If the pilot oil pressure is not correct, turn the engine start switch to the OFF position.In order to adjust the pressure reducing valve, refer to the instructions below on adjusting the pressure reducing valve.Adjusting the Pressure Reducing Valve
