When delivery of the truck to mine site is pending, several inputs for the correct operation of the ARC system needs to be considered.Refer to the following site requirements.
Mine site underground ground speed limit.
Mine site underground truck gear limit (If applicable).
Underground road conditions.
Operator experience.Once, the above information is sourced then the ARC configuration can be adjusted to suit the mine site and operational conditions. If the ground speed has not been determined by the operation and or the operation is new to the Caterpillar product. Complete a Site Assessment (SA) prior to machine operation. The information from the SA will determine the maximum ground speed and the correct gear limit settings that should be applied to the Machine. For SA details consult your local Cat dealer.Underground Articulated truck models will require different settings applied within the machines configuration. This will assist to lower life cycle costs and the comfort of the operator. The ARC system has an ON / OFF switch input that can be controlled by the operator. Caterpillar recommendation for the ARC system to remain in the ON position during the operation of the machine. The ARC system operates as an automatic retarder and controls the engine speed to the pre-set limit in the configuration. The ARC system is NOT in operation when the throttle position is above 60%. Refer to the OMM for more machine information. The system is used in a downhill application to apply the retarder to assist control of the Machine. The operator should NOT bypass the system by applying the throttle past 60%. If the operator applies the accelerator past the 60 % threshold the trucks ARC system is OFF and the machine engine over speed control will apply. The engine over speed setting has a higher set point than the ARC, harsh braking will occur. There will be adverse effects the operation of the machine in relation to the comfort of the operator. The life cycle costs of the machine will also be adversely affected.Prior to the training of the operators on the Machines, The ARC system will need to be configured. The configuration screen within Caterpillar ET is the same across the Underground Articulated Truck models.Below is an example from an AD60 machine. The technician can change the below parameters. The mine site will also provide the relevant information for the machine settings.
The Transmission Maximum gear setting can be changed as required using all gears available. Select the maximum gear that the operator can select on the machine
Body up limit and Body float limit is the maximum gear allowed for this application. The factory setting is first gear only in Up and Float
The desired Engine Retarder Speed is the ARC Start Point Setting. Engine speed can be changed within
