Introduction
This Special Instruction provides the necessary parts and the installation information that is required to replace bonded polycarbonate windows in the cabs of hydraulic excavators.Do not perform any procedure outlined in this publication, or order any parts until you have read and understood the information contained within.Parts Needed
Installation
Personal injury could result from cutting the silicone or the urethane bead with the music wire. Precaution should be taken as heat will be generated as the wire cuts through the bead. Do not use a kinked or a frayed wire to cut these beads. Use a coil of wire for providing sufficient length. Wear protective gloves when handling the wire or the knife.Wear protective glasses at all times to avoid injury to the eyes from flying materials. Use of support personnel may be required to lift and/or install the windows.
Use the correct tools, protection devices, and other precautions that are required by your employer. This procedure provides the instructions to replace the lower door window, the left side cab window, and the right side cab window.

Illustration 2. Left Side Window
Illustration 3. Right Side Cab WindowProcedure To Remove Windows
1. Use a razor blade or utility knife (3) to start a cut in the adhesive urethane bead. The easiest location to start would be at a corner.
Illustration 4. Alternate Method To Start Removal2. Cut a length of wire. Assemble each end of the wire into the handles (2).
Illustration 5. Begin To Cut Seal With Wire3. Position the wire into the cut that is started in the urethane bead. Use a sawing motion to separate the urethane bead and the window. Make sure the wire is positioned to prevent cutting into the window material. The polycarbonate is a soft material.
Illustration 6. Use Sawing Motion To Separate Seal4. It may be more convenient to cut one edge at a time. Insert the wire through the window opening as shown in Illustration 6. Assemble the handle to the wire and continue to cut seal.
Illustration 7. Peal Remaining Seal From Frame
Illustration 8. Remove Seal From Window Frame5. Use utility knife (3) to completely remove all remnants of the urethane bonding from the metal surface. Provide a clean smooth surface around the window opening.
Illustration 9. Mask Frame Before Paint Operation
Illustration 10. Apply Paint To Cover Scratched Surfaces6. Mask the adjacent areas around the window opening with some paper and some masking tape.7. Apply the paint (4) to the metal surface around the opening. Be sure to paint over any scratches caused by the window removal process. This will prevent surface rust from starting, which could result in leaks around the window in the future. Allow time for the paint to dry.Installation Of Windows
1. Cut a length of seal (10) equal to the circumference of the window being installed plus 75 to 100 mm (3.0 to 4.0 in). The chart lists the length of seal needed for each window to be installed. 2. Start the installation of the seal on the lower edge of each
