Removal Procedure
Start By:
Remove the lower access door on the right side of the engine compartment. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Engine Side Guards - Remove and Install" in this publication.Note: Put identification marks on all components for installation purposes.
Hot engine components can cause injury from burns. Before performing maintenance on the engine, allow the engine and the components to cool.
Turn the battery disconnect switch to the OFF Position.

Disconnect wiring (2), (4), and (5) from alternator (1) .
Remove the bolt, the washer, clip (3) and wiring (5) from the bracket on the alternator.

Loosen nut (6), bolt (10), and bolt (11) .
Loosen nut (12) and bolt (13). Remove V-belt (15) from alternator (1) .
Remove nut (6), washer (7), bolt (8), and spacer (9). Remove bolt (11), the washer and guard (14) from the alternator.
Remove bolt (10) and the washer on the other side of the alternator. Remove alternator (1) from the machine.Installation Procedure

Place alternator (1) in position on the bracket. Install bolt (10), the washer, guard (14), bolt (11), and the washer. Install spacer (9), bolt (8), washer (7), and nut (6) .Note: Tighten bolt (8) to alternator (1) only.Note: Do not tighten bolt (10), bolt (11), and nut (6) at this time.
Install V-belt (15) on the alternator. Take up the slack on the V-belt with nut (12) .
Adjust the V-belt tension.Note: Check the tension on the belt. Use a Kent Moore Company BT-33-77 Gauge to correctly measure the tension of the V-belt. The correct tension for a new V-belt is 712 22 N (160 5 lb). The correct tension for a used V-belt is 445 44 N (100 10 lb).
Tighten bolt (10), bolt (11), bolt (13), nut (6), and nut (12) .

Connect wiring (5). Use the bolt, the washer, and clip (3) to fasten wiring (5) to the bracket of the alternator.
Connect wiring (4) and (2) to alternator (1) .
