Connections of "Circle Drive" position sensor
The position sensor for the "blade circle drive" is located in the assembly of the right joystick. The sensor provides an input signal to the ECM that is dependent on the rotation position of the joystick handle. The FMI 08 means that the ECM has determined that the signal frequency or the signal pulse width is not within the expected range. The "blade circle drive" position sensor receives power from the 10V power supply of the Transmission/Chassis ECM and the 10V power supply of the Implement ECM. The "blade circle drive" position sensor is connected to ground at the 10V sensor return of the Implement ECM (ECM ground) and the 10V sensor return of the Transmission/Chassis ECM (ECM ground). The "blade circle drive" position sensor must lose both of the power supplies or lose both of the grounds in order to lose power. The illustration above indicates the power and ground connections for the position sensor.Note: For a schematic of the internal power and ground assignments for each individual component in the right joystick, refer to the Systems Operation, "Features" section of this manual. The position sensor is a PWM sensor that operates at a frequency of 500 100 Hz. The position sensor sends a PWM input signal to the ECM. The duty cycle of the signal will vary from approximately 10% when the joystick is rotated to the full left position to approximately 90% when the joystick is rotated to the full right position. When the joystick is in the center position, the duty cycle will be approximately 50%. The possible causes of this diagnostic code are listed below:
The sensor has failed.
Intermittent connections or poor connections
The ECM has failed. This is unlikely.Points to Consider When This Code Is Active:Note: The correct operating temperature range for the sensor is −40 °C (−40.0 °F) to 75 °C (167.0 °F). If an FMI 03 or an FMI 08 diagnostic code becomes active for a sensor when the cab environment is at extreme temperatures, normalize the cab environment in order to keep the sensor operating in the acceptable temperature range. After temperature normalization, verify that the CID 2155 FMI 08 diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Before performing this procedure, inspect the harness connectors that are involved in the circuit. Poor connections can often be the cause of a problem in an electrical circuit. Verify that all connections in the circuit are clean, that all connections are secure and that all connections are in good condition. If a problem with a connection is found, correct the problem and verify that this diagnostic code is active before performing this procedure. Note: The following test procedure may create other diagnostic codes. Ignore these created diagnostic codes and clear the diagnostic codes when the problem has been corrected.Test Step 1. CHECK THE DUTY CYCLE AND THE SIGNAL FREQUENCY AT THE SENSORTurn the key start switch and the disconnect switch to the OFF position.
At the machine harness connector
