When reporting the repair, use "PI3249" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "56" as the Warranty Claim Description Code and "T" as the SIMS Description Code. Exception: If the repair is done after failure, use "PI3249" as the Part Number, "7751" as the Group Number, "96" as the Warranty Claim Description Code, and "Z" as the SIMS Description Code.
This Revised Service Letter replaces the March 13, 1999 Service Letter. Changes have been made to the Affected Product.

New engine software is now available for 793 engines converted to EUI, for 793B and 793C engines. The new software will increase the service life of the wastegate and low pressure turbos. It will also make the wastegate respond faster and provide a 20% derate for high boost events at all altitudes and a 20% derate for low boost events if below 9000 ft.

Affected Product
1. For 793 converted to EUI, and for 793B engines, replace the personality module, and the ECM seal if needed.2. For 793C engines use ET to flash the new software. Follow steps 3 through 9 below if the 793C truck has a S/N prefix of '4AR'.3. After flashing the new software use ET and go to "Programmable Parameters". You must use ET version 2.2 or higher.4. Go to "Selectable Throttle".5. Selectable throttle defaults to a "zero". This is the value needed for this software to work properly when flashed in a 793C '4GZ' truck. For this software to work properly in a 793C '4AR' truck, change the "zero" to a "one"6. Exit ET and turn the key switch off for 15 seconds.7. Turn the key switch on for 15 seconds without starting the engine.8. Start the engine and take engine to high idle. If high idle can not be reached, the "Selectable Throttle" parameter has the wrong value.9. Steps 6 and 7 need to be performed only once following the changing of a programmable parameter.
