4. On earlier models, put indicator (9) in position over the steering pump as shown. Connect spring (10) to the console. 5. Put hood (11) in position on the console. Install the screws and washers that hold it in place. 6. Put steering wheel (13) in position on the housing. Install nut (12). Tighten the nut to a torque of 44 4 lb.ft. (60 5 N m).7. Install three pins (14) in the steering wheel. Put spring (16), button (18) and gasket (15) in position on retainer (17). Fasten the retainer to the steering wheel with three screws (19).Disassemble Steering Pump
START BY:a) remove steering pump 1. Remove housing (1) from body (2). 2. Remove ring (3). Remove shaft (5) from housing (1).3. Remove ring (4) from shaft (5). Earlier models have another ring on the opposite side of the bearing from ring (4). 4. Use tooling (A) and a press to remove bearing (6) from shaft (5). 5. Remove four fittings (7) and the O-ring seals from the pump body. 6. Remove seven bolts (8) that hold the steering pump together. 7. Remove cap (17). Remove O-ring seal (16) from cap (17). Remove gerotor assembly (15) from pump body (2). Remove O-ring seal (14) from the gerotor assembly.8. Remove gear (12) and spacer (13) from the gerotor assembly.9. Remove drive (11) and plate (10) from the pump body.10. Remove O-ring seal (9) from pump body (2). Earlier models do not have O-ring seals (9), (14) and (16). 11. Remove sleeve assembly (18) from the pump body.
Springs (20) are under compression. To prevent personal injury make sure you push springs (20) in a direction away from you.
12. Remove springs (20). Remove pin (21) to remove spool (19) from sleeve (18). 13. Remove spiral ring (22), bushing (23), O-ring seal (24), race (25), bearing (26) and race (27) from the pump body. 14. Remove two seals (28) from bushing (23). Steps 14 through 16 are for later model machines.15. Remove screws (30) from the pump body. Install a 10-24 NC screws (29) in the end of the seat. Remove the seat. 16. Remove two O-ring seals (31) and (33) from seat (32).17. Remove ball (34) and retainer (35). 18. On earlier model machines, remove insert (37), clip (38) and ball (36).Assemble Steering Pump
Step 1 is for earlier model machines. Steps 2 and 3 are for later model machines. 1. Install ball (1), clip (3) and insert (2) in the pump body. 2. Install retainer (9) and ball (8) in the pump body. Install two O-ring seals (5) and (7) on seat (6). Put clean SAE 30 oil on both seals.3. Install seat (6) in the pump body. The end of the seat with the chamfer must be out. Install screw (4). Tighten screw (4) to a torque of 8 lb.ft. (11 N m). The end of the screw must be even with or below the surface. 4. Install two springs in the spool. Make sure the curves on
