Introduction
This procedure should be performed if the machine moves slowly or not at all when placed in gear. This procedure should also be performed if the machine performs a pivot turn when just the steering lever is pulled. The turn should be gradual with this procedure. A good indication that a brake is engaged is that the engine speed will decrease more than usual when the machine is placed in gear and is operating unloaded. Step 1. Check for symptom.a. Determine that the symptom is active.b. Complete this procedure only if the symptom is active. Results:* ACTIVE - Proceed to Step 2.* NOT ACTIVE - If the symptom is no longer active, there may have been an oil contamination problem. Change the oil and filter element and clean the screens as required. STOP. Step 2. Check brake pressure.a. Start and run the engine at low idle.b. With the transmission in neutral and the parking brake disengaged, check the brake pressure at the brake control valve. Use pressure tap (G) for the left hand brake and pressure tap (H) for the right hand brake.
Figure 1: Transmission (15)
(E) Transmission main relief. (L) Transmission lubrication. (M) Oil temperature. Expected Result: The pressure should be 2750 150 kPa (400 25 psi). Results:* OK - Proceed to Step 3.* NOT OK - Proceed to Step 4. Step 3. Check for transmission drag.a. Place pressure gauges on all transmission clutches.b. With the engine running and the parking brake disengaged, shift through all the transmission gears.c. Check that the proper clutches are engaging for each gear.d. Check that the clutches are disengaging properly for each gear. There should not be more than 137 kPa (20 psi) in a clutch that is disengaged.
Figure 2: ECPC Clutch Solenoid Valve Identification Expected Result: The transmission clutches are engaging and disengaging properly. Results:* OK - Proceed to Step 8.* TRANSMISSION CLUTCH WILL NOT ENGAGE - Proceed to Step 9.* TRANSMISSION CLUTCH WILL NOT DISENGAGE - Proceed to Step 10. Step 4. Check system pressure.a. With the engine running at low idle and the parking brake disengaged, check main system pressure at transmission main relief pressure tap (E) located at the rear of the transmission.See Figure 1. Expected Result: System pressure should be 2925 150 kPa (425 15 psi). Results:* OK - Proceed to Step 6.* LOW PRESSURE - Proceed to Step 5. Step 5. Perform Low Power Train Oil System Pressure. Results:* OK - Proceed to Step 6.* REPAIRED, OK - STOP. Step 6. Swap pilot valves.a. Swap the brake pilot valves.b. Verify whether the problem changes sides. Results:* CHANGES SIDES - Proceed to Step 11.* DOES NOT CHANGE SIDES - Proceed to Step 7. Step 7. Manually inspect the clutch/brake valve.a. Disassemble and inspect the clutch/brake valve for failure.b. Repair as required.c. Calibrate the steering clutch/brake modules using the procedure in SENR8367 "Power Train Electronic Control System".Reference: Refer to Power Train Electronic Control System, SENR8367, "System Calibrations" for additional information. Expected Result: The original
