NO - Diagnostic Codes are not present. Proceed to Test Step 2.Test Step 2. CHECK MATERIAL LIFT ACTIVE STATUS WITH ETCheck Material Lift Active Status.Expected Result:Material Lift Active Status value On during lift cycle.Results:
NO - Material Lift Active Status OFF.Repair: Communication between the IQAN system and the generator controller has been lost.STOP
YES - Material Lift Active Status ON. Proceed to Test Step 3.Test Step 3. MEASURE THE VOLTAGE
Set the digital multimeter to the scale for VDC.
Connect the positive lead of the multimeter to J2-3 (Wire G889-GY(Grey)) . Connect the negative lead of the multimeter to J1-70 (Wire 201-BK(Black)) . Refer to the Electrical System Schematic, KENR8247.
Press the "Lift" button to initiate a lift cycle.Note: The voltage must be measured as the "Drop" button is pressed. The voltage measurement should measure battery voltage for approximately 0.5 to 2 seconds after the "Drop" button is pressed.
Measure the voltage as the "Drop" button is pressed.Expected Result:The voltage should measure battery voltage for 0.5 to 2 seconds after the "Drop" button is pressed.Results:
YES - The voltage measures battery voltage for 0.5 to 2 seconds after the "Drop" button is pressed. Proceed to Test Step 4.
NO - The voltage does not measure battery voltage for 0.5 to 2 seconds after the "Drop" button is pressed. The ECM may have failed.Repair: It is unlikely that the ECM has failed. Prior to replacing an ECM, always contact your dealership's Technical Communicator for possible consultation with Caterpillar. This consultation may greatly reduce repair time. If the ECM must be replaced, refer to Testing and Adjusting, "Electronic Control Module (ECM) - Replace". Repeat the check of the Diagnostic Codes.STOPTest Step 4. MEASURE THE VOLTAGE
Set the digital multimeter to the scale for VDC.
At the Drop Relay SSR 172, connect the positive lead of the multimeter to Terminal 3 (Wire G889-GY(Grey)). Connect the negative lead of the multimeter to Terminal 4 (Wire 299-BK(Black)). Refer to the Electrical System Schematic, KENR8247.

NO - The voltage does not measure battery voltage for 0.5 to 2 seconds after the "Drop" button is pressed.Repair: The wiring connecting the Drop Relays (SSR 172, SSR 173) and the ECM has failed. Wire (G890-PU(Purple)) or Wire (299-BK(Black)) has failed. Replace the failed wire.STOPTest Step 5. MEASURE THE VOLTAGE
